About Us

Our club is named after Klahhane Ridge, the Olympic Mountain ridge visible behind Port Angeles. "Klahhane" is a Chinook term meaning "fun or good times in the mountains". The name was added to maps of Olympic National Park in 1961.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT AND PHILOSOPHY

Klahhane Gymnastics is dedicated to quality instruction while promoting self-esteem and confidence for each student through participation in and enjoyment of gymnastics.

Klahhane is committed to providing an environment that is not only fun, safe and professional, but also captures the joy of childhood and the satisfaction of learning and achievement.

Klahhane Instructors use drills that introduce the skills in smaller, more achievable goals. Strength and flexibility challenges are presented, as well as games and safety drills. Our preschool classes are designed to develop coordination for all sports and introduce the young child to basic gymnastics skills. Children will experience a variety of challenges to develop basic motor skills, strength and flexibility.

  • Tamie DeLeon

    HEAD TEAM COACH

Tamie does it all! She coaches team, helps direct and run the team program, works the office, subs rec when needed, and so much more!

Tamie started gymnastics at the YMCA when she was 3, where she competed for the Clallam County Comets.  Then, she did club gymnastics through elementary and middle school through Level 8. She started coaching at 15 and continued gymnastics through her senior year of high school when she had a career ending injury.

Tamie continued coaching in Olympia at college. Her favorite thing was the Tumble Bus, a bus that was converted to a gymnastics gym complete with a preschool bar, mat wedges, rings and climbing ladders!

After her 3rd child, Tamie found her way to Klahhane and has been there ever since. Tamie has a special place in her heart for all the various levels and groups she works with. She hopes to continue sharing her love of the sport in any way she can

The best thing about being a coach is - Sharing my knowledge for the sport I love and encouraging kids to be GOOD HUMANS! Teaching manners, gratefulness, encouragement of a teammate, responsibility etc. Gymnastics coaches can teach SO much more than just gymnastics.

  • Cassidy Tamburro

TEAM COACH & SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER

Cassidy has been coaching gymnastics for 7 years, with this being her 5th season coaching Xcel teams. Fun fact: coaching was her first job ever & still her favorite.

Cassidy started her journey at Klahhane teaching rec, spent some time at North Coast in Bellingham, and found her true passion for team at GymStar in Ferndale, where she was the Xcel Silver coach for 3 seasons. Now, she’s back home at Klahhane coaching Pre-team and all of the Xcel levels. Along the way, she’s also worked with cheerleaders, coaching tumbling-focused private lessons.

While at GymStar, I ran the team programs’ social media and currently manage all PR and social media at Klahhane (for my big girl job, I’m a Program Executive at a B2B tech PR agency).

My favorite event to coach, watch, and do is floor. I absolutely love tumbling. If I had to get rid of one event, it would be vault!

I spent six years as a competitive gymnast, starting in Bronze, jumping to Gold and finishing my youth gym journey on the HS team, where I was captain my senior year.

  • Tonya Glampe

    TEAM COACH

I fell in love with gymnastics during PE at elementary school in the tiny town of Longville, MN.  After moving to Port Angeles in 1984, I was reunited with the sport while in High School. (Jan Urfer was actually my assistant coach while I was on the HS team.)

After school, I joined the United States Air Force, and while stationed at Minot AFB, ND, was offered the opportunity to begin instructing Gymnastics at the Rec Center on base.

My instruction of gymnastics progressed, and I coached my own team while stationed in Spokane, WA and later... in Belgium.

When my son was in Middle School in Amity, OR, I was asked to instruct gymnastics as part of the PE curriculum for 3 years, which I adored, but where I also dislocated my elbow.

In 2018, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and have undergone a few surgeries and changes since then.

I feel lucky to have been able to be so involved with such a wonderful sport for this long, and after moving back to Port Angeles in 2024, I sought out Klahhane Gymnastics (and Jan) to continue my teaching journey into my senior years.

Gymnastics is a sport that teaches many abilities, attributes and characteristics. Many of these have helped to shape my life. I’ve learned how to cope and learn from failure. It’s taught me patience, focus and goal setting.

Gymnastics teaches you how to take constructive criticism and the value of hard work and discipline. It teaches humility and how to compete against one’s self as well as with a team.

Instructing gymnastics has a completely new set of attributes. Shaping young people’s lives as it did mine is a great responsibility and one I don't take lightly.

The artistic strength I learned from being a gymnast and a gymnastics teacher, will be a part of who I am forever.
